- SHAREWARE FACTS
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
- and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
- programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
- of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
- and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
- distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
- and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
- specific group. For example, some authors require written
- permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
- Shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
- should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
- whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
- fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
- And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
- has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
- product, you don't pay for it.
-
- Your registration of a Shareware copy of TDF is greatly
- appreciated. Registration pays for the past and future development
- of this product. Shareware is user supported software.
-
- THE LEGAL STUFF
-
- USERS OF "TDF" MUST ACCEPT THIS DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY:
- "TDF" IS SUPPLIED AS IS. THE AUTHOR DISCLAIMS ALL
- WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION,
- THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND OF FITNESS FOR ANY PURPOSE.
- THE AUTHOR ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES, DIRECT OR CONSE-
- QUENTIAL, WHICH MAY RESULT FROM THE USE OR MISUSE OF "KOPYDISK".
- GOOD DATA PROCESSING PROCEDURE DICTATES THAT ANY PROGRAM BE
- THOROUGHLY TESTED WITH NON-CRITICAL DATA BEFORE RELYING ON IT.
- THE USER MUST ASSUME THE ENTIRE RISK OF USING "KOPYDISK". ANY
- LIABILITY OF THE SELLER WILL BE LIMITED EXCLUSIVELY TO PRODUCT
- REPLACEMENT OR REFUND OF PURCHASE PRICE.
-
- CHOICE OF LAW
-
- THIS STATEMENT SHALL BE CONSTRUED, INTERPRETED, AND GOVERNED BY
- THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS.
-
-
- "TDF" is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
- to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends,
- but please do not give it away altered or as part of another system.
- The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal
- computer users with quality software without high prices, and yet
- to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new
- products. If you find this program useful and find that you are using
- "TDF" and continue to use "TDF" after a reasonable trial period, you
- must make a registration payment of $25.00 to THE DISK FACTORY.
-
-
-
- Using TDF:
-
- TDF was designed to be used by disk vendors who wish to distribute
- their shareware catalog on a disk and want to present a professional
- image of their company. The main program TDF.EXE contains: on-line
- help, a built in text file viewer, pull-down menus, a keyboard utility,
- a color utility, and a printing utility for printing an order form.
- For TDF to print your order form it must be in a file on the disk you
- distribute with the name: ORDER.FRM
-
- Requirements for running TDF.EXE and VIEW.EXE are: DOS 2.x and any
- monitor. KOPYDISK requires DOS 3.x and any monitor and a hard drive.
-
- The TDF package includes the following files for your use:
-
- { Only the first three files must be on the disk you distribute with
- your Shareware Catalog text files }
-
- TDF.EXE Main program. Execute by typing TDF or start with a batch
- file.
- TDF.INI File that TDF reads on startup.
- ORDER.FRM A file with this name can be printed or viewed by your
- customers. This particular file can be modified for your
- use or you can create an ascii text file of your own. To
- edit this file load it into any text editor or word
- processor, make the desired changes and save it in ascii
- (text) format. Try to keep the total lines in the file
- at 55 or less, that way it will print as a single page on
- regular and laser printers. The form contains many dashed
- lines --- and ___. These will print as they are, but if
- you change them to solid lines such as ───── then some
- printers will print this line as numbers and letters.
-
-
- VIEW.EXE A stand alone file viewer you can use on program disks you
- distribute. This program can also be distributed as a
- shareware program for others to evaluate.
-
-
- KD.EXE KOPYDISK is a disk duplication program. Execute by typing
- KD
- KDDISK.EXE A small program that KD.EXE uses to make duplications, this
- MUST be in the same directory as KD.EXE.
- KOPYDISK.DOC The documentation for KOPYDISK. The KOPYDISK package must
- contain the three files: KD.EXE, KDDISK.EXE, & KOPYDISK.DOC
- You may distribuate this package for others to evaluate.
-
-
- TDFSETUP.EXE Run this program to create the TDF.INI file. All programs
- have help by pressing the F1 key. Type TDF and you will
- see there are two positions in the main menu for your use.
- Each can contain up to 20 entries, each entry up to 20
- characters wide.
- From the main menu of this program pressing F1 will allow
- you to view the help screen that you have created for use
- by the TDF program.
-
- Choose "Page 1" to begin editing the first main menu
- entries. The first line is for your company name or message.
- The next line is for the Title in the main menu of TDF.
- The next 40 lines are for the 20 entries of the menu.
- The description line is what TDF reads to put in the pull
- down menus. The next line MUST be the name of the "ascii
- text" file that you wish your customers to read when they
- select this description.
-
- Example: description : Business Apps
- text file : BUSINESS.TXT
-
- Use as many as you need, you don't have to use all of them
- If you only have ten classifications then use 5 in Page 1
- and 5 in Page 2. You can break them up any way you wish.
-
- Choose "Page 2" to begin editing the second main menu
- entries. You must enter something on the first line.
- Continue with the rest just like you did in "Page 1".
-
- Chose "Help Screen" to create you own custom "On-Line"
- help message. You have 25 lines to work with. Each line
- can be up to 80 character wide. Position you message
- exactly as you wish it to appear in the main program.
-
- Choose "Save File" to save all of the pages into one single
- file named, TDF.INI. Start the TDF program and see how
- everything you entered is used. If you don't like what you
- see, go back and run TDFSETUP again and make corrections.
-
- When you have it like you want then copy the TDF.EXE and
- the TDF.INI files onto you distribution disks.
-
-
-
-
- REGISTERING TDF:
-
- When you send the registration fee you will recieve the latest version
- of TDF with your company name hard coded in the TDF "About" box. Specify the
- "name" EXACTLY as you wish it to appear. {If the name is too long it will be
- split on more than one line. If you wish you can put your name on one line
- and a message on another} Please specify the disk size you need.
